Finding Books on the Shelf Using the Library of Congress Classification System - A Guide for MassBay Community College Library Users

MassBay Libraries’ books are organized using the Library of Congress Call Numbers (LCCN). This is similar to, but notably different from, what many K-12 and small public libraries use, which is the Dewey Decimal System.
The brochure featured on this post and the accompanying Lib Guide explain how to find books using the Library of Congress Call Number System. The Lib Guide also explains the difference from the system you may be more familiar with, the Dewey Decimal System, and the LCCN, the one used at MassBay Community College and many other college libraries and large public libraries, like Boston Public Library.
Printed brochures are available at the library. Also, library staff are always happy to assist you in finding the book or resources you are looking for in the library, so please ask a librarian for help if you need it.
